Why Give Candles as Gifts?

A candle is the move when you're not sure what to get someone, or when you just like them so much you want them to be cozy! Everybody loves a nice smell and feeling a little fancy — it's one of the few universally welcome luxuries that doesn't require knowing someone's size, taste, or living situation. Works for the host, the coworker, the teacher, the person who has everything, and the obligatory office exchange. Seasonally appropriate at all times. Never wrong!

Candle Care

For the best burn, let the candle run for 3–4 hours the first time so the wax pool reaches the edges of the jar — this prevents tunneling and ensures an even burn throughout the candle's life. Trim the wick to 1/4" before each burn. When the candle is done, clean out the jar (pop it in the freezer overnight and the wax will lift right out, or run hot water in to melt the remainder) and repurpose it however you like.

Candle Safety

Before burning: Trim the wick to 1/4" each time — long or crooked wicks cause uneven burning. Place on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Keep the wax pool clear of wick trimmings, matches, and debris.

While burning: Never touch or move a burning candle. Keep it in sight at all times — if you leave the room, blow it out first. Do not burn longer than 4 hours at a time.

When extinguishing: Use a candle snuffer to avoid hot wax splatter. Make sure the candle is fully extinguished before leaving the room. Don't touch until completely cooled.
