Overview
Tapeworms are intestinal parasites typically transmitted through fleas or ingestion of infected prey.
Symptoms
- Rice-like segments in stool or fur
- Mild weight loss
- Anal irritation
- Scooting behavior
Causes
- Flea ingestion
- Hunting rodents or wildlife
- Contaminated grooming
Treatment
- Praziquantel medication
- Flea control (critical)
- Environmental treatment
Prognosis
Excellent with proper flea control.
