Poisoning occurs when dogs ingest toxic substances affecting organs, nervous system, or blood clotting.

Common toxins:

  • Chocolate
  • Xylitol
  • Grapes/raisins
  • Rodenticide
  • Human medications

Symptoms

  • Vomiting
  • Tremors
  • Seizures
  • Weakness
  • Bleeding

Treatment

  • Induced vomiting (early cases only)
  • Activated charcoal
  • IV fluids
  • Antidotes (vitamin K, etc.)
  • ICU care

When to See a Vet

👉 Immediately after suspected ingestion.


Prevention

  • Secure food and trash
  • Avoid toxic foods
  • Store medications safely
