Overview
Poisoning occurs when dogs ingest toxic substances affecting organs, nervous system, or blood clotting.
Common toxins:
- Chocolate
- Xylitol
- Grapes/raisins
- Rodenticide
- Human medications
Symptoms
- Vomiting
- Tremors
- Seizures
- Weakness
- Bleeding
Treatment
- Induced vomiting (early cases only)
- Activated charcoal
- IV fluids
- Antidotes (vitamin K, etc.)
- ICU care
When to See a Vet
👉 Immediately after suspected ingestion.
Prevention
- Secure food and trash
- Avoid toxic foods
- Store medications safely
