Overview

Lyme disease is a tick-borne bacterial infection caused by Borrelia burgdorferi. It affects joints, kidneys, and overall energy levels.


Symptoms

  • Lameness that shifts legs
  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Swollen joints
  • Reduced appetite

Causes

  • Deer tick (Ixodes species) bites
  • Outdoor exposure in wooded areas
  • Lack of tick prevention

Treatment

  • Antibiotics (doxycycline)
  • Anti-inflammatory medication
  • Tick prevention protocols

Prognosis

Good with early treatment; chronic cases may persist.
