Overexcitement-Triggered Aggression (Frustration Aggression)
Overview
This form of aggression occurs when excessive arousal (excitement, frustration) leads to loss of impulse control and aggressive outbursts.
Symptoms
- Sudden snapping during play or excitement
- Inability to calm once stimulated
- Escalation from excitement to aggression rapidly
- Mouthing or biting during overstimulation
Causes
- Poor impulse control development
- Overstimulation in environments
- Reinforced high-energy play without regulation
- Genetic predisposition to high drive
Treatment / Training Plan
- Structured calm-down training (mat settling)
- Interrupt play before peak arousal
- Teach “stop” or “enough” cue
- Reinforce calm states heavily
- Reduce chaotic stimulation environments
When to Seek Help
- Biting during excitement episodes
- Inability to regulate arousal safely
Prevention
- Early impulse control training
- Balanced play-rest cycles
